Bellanova Books (“we,” “us,” “our”) is operated by Jenny Kellett. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit bellanovabooks.com or place an order, how we use it, and what rights you have over it. It’s written to meet both EU (GDPR) and US privacy expectations, since we ship to customers in both regions.

1. What Information We Collect
Information you give us directly:
- Name, billing and shipping address, email, and phone number (when you place an order)
- Payment information (processed directly by our payment provider — we do not store full card details, see Section 3)
- Email address (if you sign up for our newsletter or mailing list)
- Any information you send us directly, e.g. via email or a contact form
Information collected automatically:
- IP address, browser type, device type, and pages visited (via standard website analytics)
- Cookies and similar technologies (see Section 5)
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Process and fulfill your orders, including sharing necessary details with our printing/fulfillment partner and payment processor
- Send order confirmations, shipping updates, and respond to customer service inquiries
- Send marketing emails, only if you’ve opted in (you can unsubscribe at any time)
- Understand how visitors use our site, so we can improve it
- Comply with legal and tax obligations
Legal basis for processing (EU/UK visitors): We process your data based on: performance of a contract (fulfilling your order), your consent (marketing emails, non-essential cookies), and our legitimate business interests (site analytics, fraud prevention), or legal obligation (tax/accounting records).
3. Who We Share Your Information With
We don’t sell your personal information. We share it only with the following categories of service providers, solely to operate our store:
- Payment processors (e.g. Stripe, PayPal) — to securely process your payment. We never see or store your full card details.
- Print and fulfillment partner (Lulu Direct) — your name and shipping address are shared so your book can be printed and shipped directly to you.
- Email marketing platform (e.g. Mailchimp/Klaviyo) — if you’ve subscribed to our mailing list, your email is stored there to send updates.
- Website analytics provider (e.g. Google Analytics) — to understand site traffic in aggregate; this data is generally anonymized/pseudonymized.
Each of these providers is contractually required to use your data only to provide their service to us, and not for their own independent purposes.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect our rights, safety, or property.
4. International Data Transfers
Because we use US-based service providers, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States, including if you’re located in the EU or UK. Where required, our providers rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) to protect data transferred this way.
5. Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies for:
- Essential functions (keeping items in your cart, remembering you’re logged in) — these can’t be turned off, as the site won’t function properly without them.
- Analytics (understanding aggregate site traffic)
- Marketing (if applicable — e.g. retargeting ads)
For visitors in the EU/UK, non-essential cookies (analytics/marketing) are only set after you give consent via our cookie banner. You can withdraw consent at any time by adjusting your cookie settings or your browser settings.
6. Data Retention
We keep order and customer information for as long as needed to fulfill orders, meet our tax/accounting obligations (typically up to 7 years), and resolve any disputes. Marketing email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe.
7. Your Rights
If you’re in the EU/UK, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data (“right to be forgotten”), subject to legal retention requirements
- Object to or restrict certain processing (e.g. marketing)
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format
- Withdraw consent at any time
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority
If you’re a US resident (including under state laws such as the CCPA), you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect and how it’s used
- Request deletion of your personal information
- Opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information)
- Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at jenny@bellanovabooks.com. We’ll respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
8. Children’s Privacy
Our site is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
9. Data Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures (e.g. encrypted checkout, reputable third-party processors) to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data appropriately.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
