I wasn’t sure what to expect from this amazing book, but I was not disappointed. It is packed full of interesting facts that I hadn’t already read online or in other ‘Did you know’, or ‘Amazing Facts’, texts. They are gathered under various headings and after each section the sources are listed.
The first section compares facts from 10 years ago with facts from 2024. Some are positive –
‘Then (2014): The wild tiger population was estimated at around 3,500. Now (2024): Conservation efforts have helped tiger increase numbers to around 5,574 in late 2023.’
Others not so positive- ‘Then (2014): There were an estimated 16,000 tracked pieces of space debris. Now (2024): With the increase in satellite launches, space debris has become a critical issue, with around 35,150 pieces being tracked and initiatives underway to address the problem. There are an estimated 130 million untracked pieces of space debris.’
Some facts really surprised me – ‘Humans could never land on Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus or Neptune because they are made of gas and have no solid surface.
Mars is covered in rust, which is why it appears red.’
Some explained things I had wondered about –‘During the Victorian times people used to say ‘prunes’ instead of ‘cheese’ before having their photos taken to ensure they looked as serious as possible. Smiling in photos was believed to only be for the uneducated. ‘
Some facts I could do without knowing – ‘There is a website that allows you to anonymously send animal poop to a person.’
I could list so many more facts I found interesting, explanatory, entertaining, or surprising, but I won’t spoil it. I’ll just highly recommend this book.

This book is a wealth of information, most of which is surprising and uncommon. The author must have done an exhaustive job of research. Just about anything you want to know is broken down into several categories. After each section she fills several pages with her sources. If you want to know any facts, this is the book to own.

If you’re like me, you find joy in having a treasure trove of useless (and sometimes useful) knowledge to show off your worldliness. This book fits the bill. You’ll learn a broad spectrum of information and amazing facts that you can share whenever the moment strikes. Just keep in mind, the book isn’t going to teach you social skills, so use the information at your discretion!

I found these facts super interesting. I only didn’t give it 5 stars because I noticed a couple of outdated facts. Like the fact about the Chicago Cubs not having won the World Series since the Ottoman Empire was around. They won it in 2016. It was a fact before then though. Also, a couple were repeated. However, I love facts and trivia and there were many more that were super interesting and new to me. I really enjoyed this book. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
